WELCOME

Welcome to Hedgeapple Farm located in scenic Dallas County, just outside of Earlham, IA., which is about 25 miles west of Des Moines, Iowa.  We raise purebred Icelandic and Icelandic X Suffolk sheep for their outstanding meat and wool and their ability to thrive on pasture only.  Although we're not certified as organic, we strive to use organic methods to provide our customers with a quality, healthy product using intensive grazing.

We had our fifthIIcelandic shearing last October and have already sold several fleeces and others will be processed into roavings, bats and yarn.

For those interested in starting, expanding, diversifying or improving their Icelandic flock we have breeding stock available.  See our link for Breeding Stock for more information.

Our second crop of purebred Icelandics and Icelandic crosses were available as processed lamb cuts beginning June, 2008.  As always, we found the meat to be tender, juicy and flavorful.

In addition to our sheep we also have a flock of free range chickens.  We currently have a small supply of eggs available for sale at $1/dozen.

We also started raising broilers for sale this year.  Check our Broiler link for a picture of our chicken tractor and some background on our experience raising broilers.

There are also our bees which produce a wonderful tasting honey along with beeswax.  Unfortunately 2008 was a challenging year for honey production due to the extended cool, wet weather.  Bees prefer hot dry weather for maximizing honey production.  We'll only have enough this year for ourselves and gifts.

Farm Fresh Eggs
Or should I say, fresh farm eggs.  Our surviving layers from this spring's crop are now finally laying.  We've also picked up a few pullet hens from some other farms to get our egg production up a bit.  That means we now have eggs ready for sale.  We're not certified as organic, but we're feeding our hens 100% organic feed and they are free range. We charge $3.00/dozen.  If you're interested, email me at Scott or give me a call at 515-988-4350.  I work in West Des Moines at the Jordan Creek Pkwy interchange at I-80, so pickup at my work location is also an option.

PELTS

Check out our new product page under Wool/Fiber for lamb pelts. These pelts are luxuriously soft.  Check out the page at Pelts.
